President
Christina Royal, Ph.D.

Christina Royal is the fourth president of Holyoke Community College and the first woman to lead the school since it was founded in 1946. She holds a PhD in education from Capella University and a master of arts in educational psychology and a bachelor of arts in math from Marist College.

Before coming to HCC in January 2017, she served as provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Inver Hills Community College and previously as associate vice president for e-learning and innovation at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland and director of technology-assisted learning for the School of Graduate and Continuing Education for Marist College, her alma mater.

Shortly after beginning her tenure at HCC, President Royal launched a comprehensive strategic planning process for the college that brought together students, faculty, staff, the HCC board of trustees and community members to explore how the college can best meet the needs of our region’s workforce and prepare our students for the future. These efforts have produced new degree and certificate options, wrap-around student support services, and an ongoing focus on process improvement.

An active and engaged member of the community, President Royal serves on numerous boards and councils across the Pioneer Valley, including the United Way of Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, Western Mass Network to End Homelessness, Food Bank of Western MA, the American Association of Community Colleges’ Commission on College Readiness, among others.
